After the first missed month, your next bill will be for the amount you are delinquent from the previous month and the current month’s amount due. Then you will receive a warning that the utility is about to be shut off for nonpayment. You may even receive a phone call or someone may come to your door trying to collect before cutting you off. If the bill remains unpaid and there has been no contact by you to make payment arrangements for the near future, the utility will be shut off. After that, the full amount owing and probably a deposit will have to be paid in order to get it turned back on.
What happens if someone stops paying water and electricity bills?
is heating my home cheaper with propane or electricity?
im going to add a heater to heat the bedrooms portion of my house (about 1000 sq. feet) 3 bedrooms. Would adding a propane wall furnace cost less to operate or would an electric fake fireplace be better?
It depends where you live. In Hawaii electric is around 47 cents a KWh and in Missouri it is around 6 cents. However when the gas/oil went up so did the propane cost and for a while electric was cheaper here. Propane gas kind of has a set price with the whole USA with in a few cents here and there, but electric is different where ever you live. Idaho has the cheapest electric rate so there electric would be cheaper where as California propane may be cheaper.
To run a stove on a 5 gallon size (25 pound tank) will last about 2 months. This is cooking two meals a day for 4 people and running the oven once a week. So it does go a long way I am sure you can ask your sales person about BTU’s and how long it will last on the size of tank you have.
If you looked at propane this way as liquid form one eye dropper size of liquid will be 64 times larger in a gas form and will cook about two pots of Top Ramin soup or two pots of macaroni and cheese. It also depends on your altitude as well.
An electric heater can be plugged into the wall where as propane will have to piped in and it must meet building codes and when the tank is empty you will have to take to have it refilled. However if you already have propane to your home it maybe worth you while. to run a pipe a few more feet over to your bed room, and have the truck come out to refill your large permanent tank. The other thing with propane is it will have to be vented to the outside and electric you do not.
They both smell like a dry vent when you first turn them on. A gas heater may last longer where as an electric may need repairs after a while.
If you have the time to research it I am sure you will find that a Geo thermal system will best the best option and then you can have central heating and cooling throughout your whole home. The new systems now days are tax deductible and they are very clean and efficient to use. Here is a web site that you can see if your state offers a program for this system. http://www.dsireusa.org/index.cfm?EE=1&RE=1 Geo Thermal is considered a renewable energy like solar or wind power.
I hope, I have gave you more information then what you asked for. I hope I did not forget anything?
Which way is the cheaper AC (electric) bill? Help… my roommates are fighting.?
My roommates are driving me crazy. One wants the AC at a constant temp (75) when we are not home because he says it doesn’t have to work so hard to cool it down. The other roomie puts the temp up to 80 when she leaves to save electric, but when you get home, the AC runs for a long time to cool the apartment down.
Which way is cheaper on the wallet?
Leaving the AC at one temp all the time will save on money, since once your house is at the set temp the AC stops running. If you are always changing the temp the AC is constantly running which is using energy.

Scottish power doubled my payments?
can someone help me please , iv been with scottish power for gas and elec for almost a year , i pay monthly direct debit of £45 , never missed payments
i got a letter today stating we have revised your monthly payments to £98 , this is ridiculous , i know i dont use a lot of electric , only as much as any other normal house, i may have used more gas during winter but no more than most people , i cant afford £98 , i am nort working , this is a joke , what can i do , other than change supplier and cancel my direct debit ? could there be a fault on my meter? this is stressing me out
I’m assuming it was £45 for both gas and electricity all together, not each, which seems quite low. That equates to £540 for your yearly total in bills.
But nevertheless.
1. You could contact Scottish Power and ask them to put you on a slightly lower rate. If they are not helpful then your could switch your supplier.
2.There are many switching companies out there, like uswitch or energy helpline which are based on-line.
Find a good list of them on http://www.cheaperutilitybill.co.uk
3. Get Your previous month’s bill with you and note, how much you are being charged per unit. Then go to one of these switching companies, follow the instructions on line, and wait for them to find you the quote.
4. The once you have the quote, check which is cheaper for gas and electricity, gas only and electricity only, (more often than not, getting both gas and electricity from the same supplier is not always cheaper). The look carefully at the results to see how much their quote is in terms of cost per unit.
5. Energy Prices have risen , hence there is no guarantee it will be cheaper. But try this nevertheless.
Does Obama promise to Bankrupt the Coal Industry?? What about our electricity bills? ?
He said the electricity bills will go up under his policies.
I hope not, mine is already too high!
Coal from WV, PA, KY, and OH create 90% of the America’s electricity. If this happens, thousands of people will be jobless and millions will be sitting in the dark.
I can’t afford for mine to go up either! Plus he wants to spread around the wealth. If, God forbid, he gets into office, be prepared for a % of your check to go into someone else’s pocket, probably someone already milking the welfare system anyway!
UK: Why is commercial electricity far cheaper than residential electricity?
I run my own business and my electricity company charges me just 7p /kwh at any time no matter what I use at my office, but 25p /kwh (goes down to 11p after some use) at my home. Both electricity is provided by the same company (gave my the best rates for both home and my office) and my office is about 1 mile from my house!
Btw, my commercial energy is inclusive of VAT.
Is this a joke!? Dunno
