I want to know if it would cheaper to use an electric ‘fan heater’ or ‘central heating’?
gas central heating is cheaper then electric heating. But air source heat pumps powred by electric are cheaper to run than gas
In in the UK, is it cheaper to us an electric heater or gas heater?

My understanding is it is always more expensive to create heat via electricity than it is through gas.
That said, I have a mini electric heater in this bedroom which I can use infrequently when it gets really cold in Winter between 3am and 7am… with lots of settings to take the cold off, and it is easy to switch on/off when needed.
Also we’ve got an electric heater in the conservatory which is like a mini radiator that has oil inside. The electricity heats the oil to a certain temperature (controllable), then switches off, and the oil radiates heat… and when temp drops of oil, electricity kicks back on to warm it back up again. I think that is more efficient than the electric fan heaters.

I think it’s cheaper to use gas purely because it takes less energy to make the heat.
If you’re talking about warming a whole house then I would say central heating as a fan heater in each room wouldn’t be recommended. However, if you’re talking about taking the chill off just one room then I’d probably use a fan heater rather than switching on the central heating and heating the whole house.

No matter where you live it is cheaper to use gas than electric in appliances. The electric company buys natural gas, coal, oil or in some cases wood to burn in order to generate electricity. You then pay them for the cost of the fuel (at a higher price than they paid) plus transition fees and taxes.
This is why it is cheaper to use natural gas in all your home appliances. Stove, oven, water heater, clothes dryer, etc. The most efficient and least costly means of heating your home is with a gas burning forced air system. Unless you live in a rural area and must use LP Gas(propane) If that is the case then there is no appreciable difference between the cost of gas or electric, but the propane has to be delivered to your home buy truck and electricity doesn’t. Good luck.

if the electirc company offers "off peak" reduced electric costs than electric heat might be cheaper, check and see what the company offers.
